Cramer Children’s Center, formerly known as the Northwest Alabama Children’s Advocacy Center, proudly announces the launch of its new fundraising initiative, the “Spaces of Hope” campaign. Designed to support children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma, this campaign invites individuals, families, and businesses to contribute to the creation and enhancement of safe, child-friendly spaces that promote healing and resilience.

With donation opportunities beginning at just $25, the campaign aims to provide community members with accessible and meaningful ways to directly impact the lives of children in crisis.

“As we continue to see rising numbers of children impacted by abuse, the need for comforting, therapeutic environments has never been greater,” said Kim Bevis, Executive Director of Cramer Children’s Center. “Our ‘Spaces of Hope’ campaign is a chance for the community to join us in supporting children at one of the most critical moments in their lives.”

Cramer Children’s Center is a nationally-accredited Child Advocacy Center that serves nearly 400 young clients annually in Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, and Lawrence Counties – making it one of the busiest child advocacy centers in the state. Using a multidisciplinary team approach, the Center unites skilled forensic interviewers, medical professionals, mental health counselors, victim advocates, and legal representatives in a collaborative, child-centered environment. We provide a comprehensive range of services—including forensic interviews, trauma-informed therapy, medical evaluations, case management, and family support—entirely free of charge to families. Funds raised through our Spaces of Hope campaign will directly support operational costs, ensuring we can continue offering these critical services to children in our community at no cost to the families we serve.

The urgency behind this campaign is underscored by national statistics.

In 2022 alone, an estimated 434,000 perpetrators were involved in cases of child abuse or neglect in the United States, with a heartbreaking 1,990 children losing their lives as a result. Approximately 76% of child abuse victims were harmed by a parent or guardian, and neglect accounts for nearly 75% of all confirmed cases. These figures highlight the ongoing and pressing need for intervention, education, and safe spaces for recovery.

The “Spaces of Hope” campaign features a range of giving opportunities. A $25 donation can provide a new book for the story time library, while a $30 gift can supply a sensory toolkit to help ease anxiety in children awaiting services. Room sponsorship levels are also available for organizations or individuals interested in leaving an annual legacy at the Florence or Russellville offices.
