Kim Bevis, MSW
Executive Director | Cramer Children's Center (Florence Office)
As the Executive Director of Cramer Children's Center, this is a role I have proudly held since 2014. Over the years, I have dedicated my career to advocating for children's well-being and ensuring that they receive the support and resources they need to thrive. My journey in this field has been both rewarding and transformative, shaping my commitment to making a lasting impact on the lives of children and their families. I grew up in Florence, AL, the daughter of Jerry Felts, Sr. and his wife Barbara Felts. I attended Bradshaw High School and graduated in 1983. I married in 1985 and have two children, and 3 grandchildren.
With a strong academic background in child development and social work, I graduated from the University of North AL with a BSW in Social Work in 1988 and from Alabama A&M University with a MSW in Social Work in 1999. Shortly after graduation I went to work for Riverbend Mental Health Center in Florence, then I moved to Athens, AL and worked for the North Central AL Mental Health Center, the AL Department of Public Health Department, and the AL Department of Human Resources in Morgan Co. Next, from 1999 to 2008 I successfully opened and ran the office of Therapeutic Programs, Inc. in Cullman, AL., in the administrative role of Regional Program Director. In this position I recruited, trained, and licensed therapeutic foster family homes as well as trained, and supervised program staff, spanning numerous counties in Alabama.
In 2008 I moved to Brooks’ Place, Child Advocacy Center of Cullman, Inc. as the Executive Director and I remained in this position until 2014. While at Brooks’ Place my primary function was to manage the day-to-day operations of the agency, while coordinating service delivery to Cullman Counties child victims of sexual and physical abuse.
Then in 2014, I landed back in Florence, AL as the Executive Director of Cramer Children’s Advocacy Center. Since assuming my position at Cramer Children's Center, I have focused on fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within our organization. I work closely with an exceptional team of dedicated professionals who share my passion for children's advocacy. In this role I have cultivated a deep understanding of the challenges that children face today. I believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they can explore their potential and grow into confident individuals and when we work together, we can create a brighter future for our children.
In addition to my role at Cramer Children's Center, I am actively involved in various professional organizations and advocacy groups focused on child welfare and education. I regularly participate in conferences and workshops, where I share insights, research findings, and best practices with fellow professionals. I am committed to staying informed about the latest trends and developments in the field, as I believe that continuous learning is essential to providing the best support possible for the children and families we serve. I am a Licensed Social Worker in Alabama, a Certified Forensic Interviewer by the National Children’s Advocacy Center, as well as trained in Extended and Advanced Forensic Interviewing, I also am a Certified GPS Trainer, and a Certified Deciding together Trainer.
I have been a Adjunct Professor at the University of North AL, served as the President of the Board, Immediate Past President, and Member at Large for the AL Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers, served on the Cullman Chamber of Commerce Health Services Committee, served on the Cullman Area Mental Health Center Health Services Committee, served on the Cullman Primary School Health Services Committee, served on the Cullman Children’s Policy Council, the Cullman Community Health Coalition, Cullman QA Assurance Committee member, Lauderdale Co. that all children in these situations should be provided the opportunity for an exam, in
order to assure that the child is okay regardless of what happened. She discusses the
fact that what happened cannot be changed but the child can now move forward in the
healing process. This doesn’t change who they are. Charlotte considers it a privilege to
