Holiday Caring Project

Help Kids like Emma this Holiday Season

Emma playing soccer

My name is Emma. I’m eleven years old, and I love soccer. I used to look forward to practice every week. My coach always told me I was one of the best players on the team. I thought he was someone I could trust.

But then my coach started doing things that made me uncomfortable. He would find reasons to get me alone and touch me in ways he shouldn't. He told me not to tell anyone. I felt confused and scared. I knew something wasn't right, but I didn't know what to do.

One night, my mom noticed I was upset and asked what was wrong. I finally told her. She hugged me and said she believed me. My dad told me it wasn't my fault and that they would do whatever it took to keep me safe.

My parents told me there was a place where I could talk to someone who would listen and help me. That's how I found Cramer. I was nervous when I got there, but the people were kind and made me feel comfortable. A lady talked with me in a quiet room and let me share what happened in my own words. She listened and made me feel safe.

I also met with a nurse who gave me a medical exam. She explained everything before she did it and told me it was just a way to make sure my body was safe and okay. I was a little nervous, but she was kind and made sure I felt comfortable.

I started seeing a therapist at Cramer who helped me work through all the feelings I had been carrying. Some days were harder than others, but little by little, I started feeling like myself again.

I don't play soccer with that team anymore, but I still love being outside and spending time with my family. My parents remind me that I am loved, safe, and can always talk to them.

I wanted to share my story because I know other kids might be scared to speak up, too. I hope they know there are places like Cramer that can help them feel safe. If sharing my story helps even one kid feel brave enough to tell someone, then I'm glad I did.

Your friend,

Emma

Give the Gift of Hope

Emma’s story isn't about a real child, but it reflects the experiences of children who come to Cramer CAC for help.

Oftentimes, the person hurting a child is someone they know and trust. For these children, believing them and having a safe place to turn can make all the difference.

This holiday season, we humbly ask you to help kids like Emma. Your gift provides:

  • Safe, child-friendly spaces for children to tell their stories.

  • Trauma-focused therapy and counseling.

  • Medical exams at no cost to families.

  • Advocacy and support for non-offending parents and caregivers.

Please consider making a special year-end gift today to help children like Emma find the support and healing they deserve. Because every child deserves to be safe and surrounded by people who care.
